VWS offers a number of power generation solutions for variable-speed non-wind applications as well. VRS-enabled AC power generators, and DC generators employing the electronics from the Connec2Grid solution, offer high-reliability, high-efficiency, cost-effective power generation solutions across a broad range of power outputs.

Wave, Current, and Tidal Power Generation

Hydraulic systems employed in wave, tidal, and current power generation systems can benefit from the VRS by being able to generate grid-quality power at lower pressures and lower generator RPMs, and so improve overall reliability and ride-through time, and expand the range of environmental conditions and locations in which power can be generated.

PMG systems

Variable Wind Solutions is currently developing a unique DC generator that utilizes the power conditioning electronics in the Connec2Grid technology to allow for higher efficiencies at lower cost relative to comparable output PMG generators.

Development of the DC generator is expected to be completed by the middle of 2009, with pilot projects to be initiated immediately afterwards.
